Homemade Tomato Soup

When my restaurant was open I made my own version of Tomato Soup. Extremely like a major manufacturer's and far less expensive. If you have a larger family I highly recommend making this soup and to serve it with some sort of grilled cheese and some homemade popcorn or perhaps your favorite cracker.
Purchasing 3 cans of a major brand of soup costs $3.27. If you find a 29 oz. can of tomato sauce when it goes on sale for $.99 as it was recently in our grocery store it is obviously a huge savings.

The soup is simple - and all you do is taste the tomato sauce and the tomato puree to see if it is already somewhat tart or salty or sweet. From there, pour the tomato sauce and tomato puree into a pot and add some white sugar if it's tart, a pinch or so of salt and pepper to taste and add in a little bit of milk. Stir and heat through. You are done.
If you want to make it tomato rice soup, make a little bit of rice on the side and add it to the soup. You could do the same with some sort of tiny pasta like ditalini or even orzo to make it a tomato and pasta soup. Adding rice or pasta would make the soup a heartier and more filling meal.
Instead of purchasing an expensive box of microwave popcorn, buy a bag of kernels and pop your own on top of the stove in a large sauce pot. All you do is add enough oil on the bottom of the pot and add in a layer of kernels, cover and pop over medium low heat - moving the pot all around during the popping process.  Add your own favorite ingredients: butter, salt, grated Parmesan cheese - whatever suits you.
