The Holidays Are Just Around The Corner

HALLOWEEN - that spooky, scary night where you get to take your children around collecting candy and some clever homemade goodies. It's pumpkin carving time. Children and adults love it. Some families will elect to host a Halloween party in their home in place of door-to-door trick or treating.
This photograph is from our local farm orchard that has been here in town since I was a child. It used to be run by a local farmer named Joe Pytko. The original barns are still on the property. Another family, the Scotts' are the current owners and operate the farm as they have for many years now. While Halloween is not really my favorite holiday, some people revel in it. They adorn their porches and yards with very clever displays of pumpkins, corn stalks and scary creatures.
The elementary school ramps up for the costume parade. Kindergarten through sixth grade children dress in all sorts of store bought or home made costumes and are taken on a walking route through the enter of town. This is a rural town and the townspeople embrace this tradition.

Gathered stalks of Indian Corn will soon be displayed on the doors of many residents.
I recently ran across a photograph on one of the sites I visit and some creative and talented individual took these colorful beauties and made the most stunning wreath.
Unfortunately, I am not that talented nor do I have enough patience to attempt it!
It's a reminder to us that soon we should be seeing what Mother Nature has in store for us - hopefully a vibrant and stunning display of color reflected off one of our local ponds.

And Mums shall adorn the porches and steps of homes from all over the surrounding towns.
There is something to be said for those who are talented and clever when it comes to decorating this time of year. From the sublime to the outrageous, it truly is a wonderful time of the year.

So begin to think about all of the wonderful food that will adorn your Halloween party table. What scrumptious and tasty cupcakes and popcorn balls and fruit punches will you be making?
Will you make a macaroni and cheese light supper for the kids using orange cheddar cheese? And how about some pigs in a blanket to go along side. Dessert - cupcakes with Halloween decorations and some home popped corn balls packaged in orange and black cellophane for them to take home. Make a spooky fruit punch with gummy spiders or other creepy creatures that you froze in the ice cubes.

Most of all, enjoy this time with your children.
Trust me, as a mother with three
grown children of my own:
Time passes much too quickly and you can't get it back.
